Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone had any tips on what to put in a letter to the Royal Navy; i am going to write to them to request information on my grandfather who severed between 1941-1946.

Does anyone know what information they would be willing to tell me? I would love to know where he severed.

Any tips would be appreciated.

Hi Roy,

I have had a look at the form and the web page you suggested; i just want to know if i need to have all the information the form requires only my grandfather died when i was 6 so i don't know his service number or his IN number. Also i am not his next of kin it is my grandmother but she is unwell and there can not sign the form.

If you look at the Veterans Agency website, you will see that prior to 1972 all Royal Navy personnel were given their service record when they were discharged.
