How do I order birth /death ect cirtificates ? can it be done on line ?

Janet yes it can but please make sure you order from GRO

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/

If you know the reference number of the cert you want its £7 otherwise if you use checking points it could be £11

You can order certs online from this site:
http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/

If you have the GRO reference it will cost £7.

To find the GRO reference for births, marriages and deaths from 1837 to late 1920s, use this site:

http://www.freebmd.org.uk/

Or if you have a subscription to Ancestry you can search there.

Only use the above site, or a local registry office, for buying certs - there are a lot of rip off sites out there who will charge a lot more.

Potty you are right one place wants to charge £25 for cert , its important new people to this hobby know the right price for them

My very first birth certificate cost me
£21 .00 because i didnt know about the GRO .then ,
i just took a site from the net and ordered one .
but the good peeps on here soon put me right lol.
