Think very carefully before taking out Gold membership on here.

The census can only be searched by surname - hopeless for finding mistranscriptions.

The WW1 deaths are on images of the GRO register - the Commonwealth War Graves Commisions (CWGC) will have the same people and often with more info about the family. I searched for my uncle's death on here but nothing came up. Just searching on his surname brought up all those killed with that surname and lo and behold he was there but the typing was so bad that it has probably been mistranscribed.

Thank you both for replying. I'll have to think about it. Most of my spare cash is going on certs at the moement to prove my tree. With so many family names that are common it is difficult to be accurate without.

As somebody who is retired and living on a fixed income would like some advise.

What is the benefit or real difference between Find my Past and Ancestry. Which is the easiest to use for quick look ups

Not sure which site to pay for
