I have a relative in 3 place on one census
I just presume the enumerators didnt get to all addresses on the same night so people just said who was usually there- then other people were more particular and remembered visitors.
Saying this a person may well of travelled between addresses on that day and was present at all when the enumerator called

There is a strong possibility that Frank was affected (poisoned) by the paint he used in his job and then diagnosed as mad. It might be worth researching the kind of things that went into paint in those days - lead for example. This was quite well known for Hatters - hence the phrase "As mad as a Hatter"

In a Durham mining village, I came across a family that all had an entry in the disability column. In their case it was that they were all born in Lancashire. I presume no one could understand their accent.

I've seen this with visitors. They get recorded once at their usual place of residence and again as a visitor.

Had to laugh at the way you wrote:

"he has Lunatic in the last column, he is definately my relative."

I wonder if anybody has any thoughts about this, I have an ancestor in the 1891 census for Manchester Frank (name Francis)Ryder born Ardwick Manchester ,wife Betsey and children ,he has Lunatic in the last column, he is definately my relative.
In the same census for Lancaster Lunatic Asylum I find Francis Rider patient age 35 occupation painter which is the same as my Francis in earlier census and born Manchester.
It looks as if his wife has perhaps given the info whilst the man was in the asylum , it seems too much of a coincidence that two men with such similar info are not one and the same.
I would be interested to hear any comments.
Thanks Christine
