Hy Lynny, the address to use depends on which service he was in, e.g. RAF, RN etc. If you google "army service records" it should come up with a website where you can download the forms and details.

You cant do it on-line.
Can only be done by application, if it's Army:
Army Personnel Centre

Cost is £30 and be prepared to wait a few months.

Have you tried Rootschat.com website site ?
They have a section just on this topic,ive found out a few details from this site.
