	2 suggestions as to why you can't find his birth registration and possible ways round it. 1. He wasn't registered although he should have been......You could look for a baptism in the parish registers. 2. He was registered but for some reason the registration details never made it to the GRO......You could apply to the relevant Register Office for a search to see if they have the record. Member Since: February 2003 Posts: 2 Send Message	Yes thats the right family I Have a copy of that particular birth certificate and It has the father as George Carter so that must be the wrong one The father on the mariage Certificate (John) is a farm bailif it doesn't day he is deceased so I am assuming he is still alive in 1899 I have also been through all the registered births for that year and the years before and after and nothing seems to match Have just checked on the John at Rowhedge and he is on the 1901 census so not him either

Member Since: February 2003 Posts: 2 Send Message	My Husbands Gt grandfather John William Carter is on the 1901 census with wife and two children it says he was born in Tolleshunt d'Arcey, Essex, I cannot find any record of him before this on any census or any birth record they married in 1899 and I have the certificate which gives his father as John but this doesn't seem to help either I have since looked at the 1911 Census on which he is known as Jack and is born in Tollesbury but I am still struggling Any Ideas what I can do next
