Masami

I contacted Ancestry recently asking what would happen to my records if I did not renew and this is the answer I got:

"Yes, you will still have access to your tree. But as to the records that are attached, you will not be able to view the actual records with out a paid membership."

So if you decide not to renew make sure that you have copied the records to your computer or printed them out.

If you signed up for a sub from the Australian site your present sub would continue. You would need to go to your account and cancel it. This is what I had to do.

The half price deal is finished now I believe but it still seems to be cheaper than the subs on the U.K.site.

I did join using the internet .Moonbean and Evelyn both phoned Ancestry.Moonbeam got it half price even though she has the Canadian sub.Evelyn was refused.
I guess its who you contact that makes a difference. Probably on commission so the more it costs the more they make

I think the answer is always to do it via the internet and never to phone & ask!

Responding to Evelyn. She was told she couldnt join the Australian Ancestry because she was a resident of Canada.

How is it then when I joined Ancestry.uk I wasnt told I couldnt join because I was a resident of New Zealand. Obviously Evelyn was being fobbed off.

A belated thanks for this tip, I've been wanting to joing Ancestry for ages, then the price went up so I put it off again. Think I spotted this thread just in the nick of time and joined at the weekend.

Thanks again

Well I phoned Ancestry and was told that as a resident of Canada I could not subscribe to the Australia site. So how did you lucky people manage to do it?!

Thanks Heather and Glen for telling us about this site.

My Ancestry sub was due to expire next week so I phoned Ancestry to-day and bought the half price Aussie sub. So instead of paying about $194 Canadian for the Premium Sub I'll be paying about $62-65 Can for the U.K. Heritage package.

Even their regular price is cheaper than the U.K. price. Premium U.K. £107 compared to U.K. Heritage $150 Aus. which is at the present exchange rate about £66 .
