1911 census problem

Just a thought: if you enter your mother-in-law's name in the search box on the 1911 census (separate to her parents) you may find the word "institution" next to any results. This would indicate she was in fact in hospital/sanitorium, etc.

I found one of my ancestors this way - his parents were in the workhouse at one address and he was with his siblings in the workhouse school at another address.

Worth a try?

There's this one born Sheffield.

Schedule type Last names First names Sex Birth year Age in 1911 District / other County / other Transcript Original page
HOUSEHOLD WALTON MARY F 1904 7 Ecclesall Bierlow Yorkshire West Riding

I don't see any other Mary Waltons born in Sheffield or Ecclesall Bierlow, so perhaps this is your Mary.

Where was Mary Walton born and what month? Her parents married in 1906 also. Any chance she is listed as Pearson?

If you look here the other areas haven't been transcribed yet

A big chunk of the country including East Yorkshire hasn't been released yet.

Annoying for those of us who have ancestors in the counties yet to be released.

I know East Yorkshire, Sculcoates in particular hasn't been released yet as its a section of what is considered modern day Hull, I have relatives whose BMD details place them in Sculcoates in 1911.

I am unable to find two people on the 1911 census and I wondered if anyone has any ideas, please.

My mother in law, Mary Walton is not with her family. Her Father is William Ashton Walton, 30 and her mother is Lucy Jane Walton, 31, her younger brother, Arthur James Walton, 2, is also there. Mary was born in 1906 and would have been 4 when the census was taken. My wife believes she may have had a serious illness such as diphtheria or scarlet fever as a child but does not know when.

The other is Martha Wilkinson. Martha was the daughter of George and Martha Wilkinson who lived in Sheffield. Martha's age on the 1901 census is given as 8 and her place of birth as Kingston upon Hull, she was married in 1914 to Percy Smith.

The mother is shown as having 7 children 7 still alive but only 6 are on the 1911. Martha would be the eldest at about 18. She may have been working away from home. (She was known as Patty to the family.) The parents were married in sculcoates in the March ¼ of1892 and there is a Martha born in Sculcoates in the Sept ¼ of 1892. making her 8 at the time of the 1901, I believe that Sculcoates is in the Hull area?
