If you are sure that the son has hot matches, that is one thing to consider. At first, I would just reply to the hot matches and say "Hi I see you have Fred Smith in your tree, would he be the half brother of Joe Smith born 1923? And leave it at that.

Hello, I have recently found out that my mum has a half brother who knows nothing about my mum. His son has three hot matches listed in my hot matches. Believing that his dad does not know about my mum, his half sister do you think I should send him a message or do you think I should leave alone? What would you do?
