A couple of questions how far is Camberwell from southwark.

Also how would you go in finding a missing child who on 1911 census who has died.
Surname is quite common Perkins.

Parents married at the end of august 1897. In 1911 census shows one of their children had died. In 1901 census no children were listed.

First known child born mar 1901 camberwell
2nd aug 1903 southwark
3rd jan 1905 southwark
4th aug 1906 camberwell
5th sept 1908 Bromley
6th mar 1911 camberwell
7th july 1918 camberwell

I have checked no twin births for living children.
Thanks for any ideas.

very near :)

Sadly youd have to check every Perkin child death and buy the cert to see if the parents/informant fit your details.

Just a sec do you know the first name of the child who died then? If so, enter the details in deaths on freebmd.org

No I dont have any idea for the name but I think it would be a first and second name as all the chidren that lived had two names.

How would I find out the local parishes in the area?

Thanks for your reply Heather

Perhaps it was a stillborn baby but most likely it was their first born as there's almost a 4 year gaps between their marriage and the 1901 census.

I have looked at the deaths up to 1901 and found 3 that could have been born after the marriage and died before 1901 census. I think it is most likely they were reg in camberwell or Southwark.
So I think may be I will send of for the certificates and keep my fingers crossed.
Just remembered he was in the army from 1890 to 1902 and he was abroad for a year so maybe he didnt get to see his wife much.

Just to say that I have Perkins in my tree and sometimes they are listed as Parkins.

Hope thats not the case for yours!

The 1911 ask for all "live births" doesnt it? That wouldnt include still born.

Sue,

Perhaps you can look for naming conventions to narrow it down. The child might be named after the parents or grandparents.

What are the names?

There was no registration of stillbirths back then.

Why is the Mar 1901 birth missing from the census on night of 31/3/1901?

Just had a look at names i have for deaths and their is a child Hilda catharine death 1898 j/a/s camberwell.John henry ( father)had a sister who died as a child catherine mary. And long shot but matilhilda( wifes mothers name) could be shortened to give Hilda.

Sue..... If when you order any death certs. for your "missing" child you use the parents name as a reference check, it should narrow down the possibilities, and hopefully pinpoint the correct certificate and child.
