Hi Philippa

I have pm'd the links for you, in case anybody else is interested in canadian soldiers, the website that holds the attestation papers is collectionscanada.gc.ca

There are people on that site that offer their services to obtain copies of records for you, I have just recently obtained one of my ancestors records and I didn't think it wasn't expensive at all.

Some Canadian service records for WW1 are on Ancestry,But my subscription does not cover these, so i cannot view.
If you do not subscribe you can opt for "pay as you go" or you could take out a 14 say free trial.
I do not know where else they maybe, perhaps someone else will assist you
