or you could have tried Lock* and Minn* using the wild card symbol


GeordieLad .......... for you it would be All* or All*n .... that would catch both spellings


I find that easier than the phonetic box!

Glad to be of help - having had a number of problems finding people on my own tree (eg Allen vs Allan), I'm all too familiar with the 'phonetic' box on FreeBMD!

Found on FreeBMD, using
Surname = Lockyer
First name = Min
Phonetic surnames switched on

I cannot find this lady's birth about 1877.

Minnie Lockyer, also Minny, Minney.

On the 1881 she is Minney LOCKYER Daur Female 4 Lambeth, Surrey, England
In 1891: Household LOCKYER, Minny 1877 14 F Lambeth London
1901 LOCKYER, Minnie 1877 24 F Lambeth London

In 1905 she married Fred Boom

BOOM Frederick James Lambeth 1d 660
Lockyer Minnie Daisy Lambeth 1d 660

But I cannot find her birth
