David Report 14 Feb 2009 19:24

I cannot find this family except for the father on the 1901 and cannot find any of them on the 1911

This is the family on the 1891
PALMER, Charles Head Married M 28 1863 Carpenter Croydon
Surrey
PALMER, Jane Wife Married F 29 1862 London
PALMER, Kate Daughter F 7 1884 Upper Norwood
Surrey
PALMER, Rose Daughter F 5 1886 Upper Norwood
Surrey
PALMER, Minnie Daughter F 4 1887 Croydon
Surrey
PALMER, Anne Daughter F 2 1889 Croydon
Surrey

The father, Charles was on the 1901 with his younger brother's family in Aldershot.
PALMER, Ernest Head Married M 35 1866 Salesman Sewing Machine Croydon
Surrey
PALMER, Elizabeth Wife Married F 49 1852 Norwich
Norfolk
PALMER, Charles Son M 10 1891 Croydon
Surrey
PALMER, Charles Brother Married M 40 1861 Dispenser Hospital Military Croydon
Surrey
BROWN, Joseph Boarder Widower M 58 1843 Carpenter Reading
Berkshire

But I cannot find the wife and daughters.

Here is the family on the 1881
PALMER, George Head Married M 52 1829 Bricklayer Brentwood
Essex
PALMER, Eliza Wife Married F 53 1828 Dress Maker St Lukes
Middlesex
PALMER, Charles Son Single M 20 1861 Letter Carrier Croydon
Surrey
PALMER, Ernest Son Single M 13 1868 Errant Boy Croydon
Surrey
PALMER, Elizabeth Daughter Single F 7 1874 Scholar Croydon

Is an errant boy a 19th c yob?

Looking at this again, the 1891 family may not be the same. If they are different it is the Palmer family on the 1881 and 1901 that I am looking for. Elizabeth was my great grandmother, and yes, the difference in age between her and her husband is correct. My ggfather died a month or so after my gfather was born and she then married a much younger man.

POSSIBLE FOR KATE

Thanks Dollymixture

That could well be Kate. The 1901 census says that Charles is married, not widowed, so unless it is a mistake his wife should be somewhere.

I have been looking for a marriage for Charles and Jane, and this is the only one I can find that seems possible in the Surrey/London areas

Marriages Sep 1883
DALE Jane Elizabeth Croydon 2a 371
Dee Mary Maria Croydon 2a 371
Mills Edward Croydon 2a 371
PALMER Charles James Croydon 2a 371

If so it could be that she was under either Christian Name. I couldn't find one of my grandmothers on the 1911 till I looked under her second name.

I have looked at the details of any likely looking Jane Palmer but they all are living with their husbands.
