Hi Jacelyn

I've just had a bit of a google. Dennis Wirth-Miller, born in 1915 in Folkestone, seems to have been a very good painter, and very close friend of Francis Bacon. Have a google, you might find all sorts of gems about your family there.

Many thanks to everyone. Sadly though I have found no info on John Wirthmiller my great grandfather. Not sure where to go from here!

I will definitely think about writing to one of the entries out of the Austrian phonebook, however, the other 4 are for a bookshop, I have emailed them before and not received a reply. Maybe I need to learn German!!!

As for other possible relatives on this link, I have no idea whether there is a connection until I can find info on John!

Hi Jacelyn

I know this could be coincidence, but look at http://www.herold.at/en/telefonbuch/wirthmiller/

The 4 Wirthmillers at the same address are in Saalfelden, the other is in Salzburg! Fits nicely with what you say.

Eleanor and John were married in Alnwick in 1909, however I cannot find a record of them on the 1911 census?!!!

My great grandfather John Wirthmiller married Eleanor Ames, not sure what year, and had 3 children, Denis, Eleanor and William (my grandfather). I know what year the children were born but cannot find anything about John Wirthmiller. I have been told that he came over from Austria in the early 1900's.

I will try Cyndis List, and 1911 census (didnt know it was out!)
Im pretty sure they are from Saafelden/Salzburg

Many thanks

Hi Jacelyn

Can you tell a bit more?

Have you looked at the 1911 census?

How do you know about them, and that they came from Austria?

Do you know whereabouts in Austria they came from?

There is no Austrian BMD site, but the Austrian phonebook is online. It only shows 5 entries for Wirthmiller, and 4 of them are at the same address. Might be worth a punt for living relatives. The phonebook is www.herold.at, if you fancy writing to them I have a suitable German draft letter if it's any use.

Good luck

They could be on the passengers lists.

Have you tried Cyndi's List?

Can anyone give me tips on how I trace the Wirthmiller family from Austria. I don't know of an Austrian BMD site. My great grandfather and possibly some members of his family came to England at the beginning of the 1900's. They do not appear on 1901 census.
Many thanks.
