Annie Laurie is correct in that IF his records survive they will be on Ancestry (although NOT ALL records have been loaded onto the site yet).

You need to know only between 30-40% of records survive for this period 60-70% got burnt during a bombing raid in WWII.

Margaret, you are getting the records mixed up and thinking of WWII records.

Michael, you need to post some details, such as where he was born and where he lived - it will help to narrow down the records which are available and you MIGHT strike it luck.

Is there anyone who remembers which regiment he was in or even better his service number (he could have had several service numbers if he was posted to several different units throughout his service - you only need to know one of them).

Margaret

If Fred Hall didn't serve in the Army after WW1, there is nowhere to send off to for his records. If they have survived, they will be on the Ancestry website, and it 's just a question of going through them all to see if there is one whose details fit.

Oh bad luck Ann. There is not a lot you can do. If you have his Army Service Number, you can apply for a statement of his war service. You can still try that, costs £25, if you can give enough details of him for them to tie him down to a particular person, but it seems unlikely.

Sorry

Margaret

The British Army WWI Medal Rolls Index Cards, 1914-1920 are on Ancestry. There are about 100 Fred Halls.

Im trying to look up WW1 details on my Great Grandfather Fred Hall.

I know he was in WW1 as there were medals in the family unfortuantly they were stolen.

Fred was born 24th September 1892 as I have his birth certificate.

Fred lived until 19th June 1960.
