i have:
Joseph Loyd
Born: 1816 in shropshire

He married Charlotte Weager 1838 in Knighton, wales.

I have found them on the 1841 census living in edgton in shropshire with 2 children edward and sarah. does anyone know how i can trace them further back?

If their marriage cert is on FreeBMD that might help - it would give you their fathers' names and occupations. It might also confirm their ages. Bear in mind that the 1841 census rounded down to the nearest 5 years so they could have been born between 1812 and 1816 if they show as 25 on the 1841.

Familysearch - the LDS site would be a good place to start.

thanks everyone for the info. the marriage was correct because Llanvair waterdine is only 2 miles from knighton so that must be why knighton is the district on the bmd
