Poppybat it was just the local town's weekly rag. It's worth ringing the local library for thr town your looking for. Ask if they keep back copies on microfilm or fiche

Claire, was this a Welsh newspaper (I'm guessing from your name?)

If so, which one? I have a divorce I'm trying to trace info about from the late 1920s / early 1930s. I had a look through some newspapers for other things (coroners inquests etc) when I spent a few days in Wales last year on a "research trip", and would love to know a likely source in case I get to go back soon to search for more.

Peter it wasn't G Grandad's divorce, it was something that caught my eye; well OK I was being nosey!

There was a report of a divorce that said that Mr John Jones had return from war & became suspicious of child 2. When he questioned his wife, she admitted that child 2 was the son of Mr John Smith. Divorce was granted on the grounds of Mary Jones adultery with Mr Smith.

If child 2 was doing family history he would have ALL the corect certs but be chasing the wrong family.

I only looked though a few of the newspapers but there seemed to be a divorce( with info) in every issue & this was 1923 so I gather it must have taken about 5 years for a divorce to come through.

The newpaper search was free & a photocopy of a paper was only 10p

Claire,

This is really interesting as Ithe same thing happened to my grandmother, and her adultery was undeniable since her lover had claimed paternity on their children's birth certificates.

Do you know the financial circumstances of your divorcees? The reason I ask is that the common view is that divorce only became affordable for ordinary people in the 1920s but my grandmother and her husband were definitely not at all well off and they were divorced about 1918.

If you have an early divorce in the family, try the local newpaper.

Whilst looking for G Grandad's death I came across quite a few reports on divorce. This included one where the husband had divorced the wife for adultery committed during WW1, named the other man & stated that the last child born within the marriage belonged to is man. Although the child wasn't named it would be vary easy to workout who he was
