You could try sending an email to the GRO, Tina. I have found them helpful when I have done that.

Hope you are feeling better now.

Hi there,

I work at the GRO and would suggest you wait and see what you get. If you end up with a wrong ref email I would suggest calling the Contact Centre and explaining what happened.

Hope that makes you feel a bit more hopeful!

Thanks Kath and Joan. I feared as much. I can only hope that someone in a kindly and helpful frame of mind goes looking for the certificate.

I was told that once an online order is placed you can't do anything about changing it (even if you were to phone them).

I think you may get the certificate (if they are feeling generous and realise you have made a typing error) but I wouldn't count on it. However if they don't supply the certificate I think you should get a refund of at least some of the money.

I have had a very bad week. Brain (what's left of it) has gone AWOL. I ordered a marriage cert last night on line from the GRO. When I printed out the receipt at the end, I realised that I have put William McElrou instead of William McElroy. I did not give the wife's name. I have given them the correct reference number, and my customer ref says wmmcelroymarr1859, but I don't know if they will notice that.

Is there anything I can do about this, or have I probably lost my £7? Any suggestions?

Tina
