I've bought CD's on line from The Lancashire Parish Register Society, plus some from Parish Chest. Their information is largely covered on Family Search, but there is additional information such as parents' names and witnesses for marriage registrations. Some of these extra bits have given invaluable leads.

There is also the knowledge that the information you have is correct. Have one set of extracted records from Family Search where a relative was baptised about three weeks AFTER she died, and nearly FOUR weeks after she was buried!! You are not seeing things, the records say she died 3 days after she was buried.

It is a shame about the Family History web site ending - and they havent transferred ALL their records to Find My Past. :-(

Hi. You could try www.familyhistoryonline.net
the Federation of Family History Societies. Although not all counties have entries on here, I have fould loads of records that are relevant to my family - and it is fairly cheap, too.

I bought parish records on Cd via the Internet. I bought them from the Family History Society and although I can't remember how much they were they didn't cost much. As one branch of my family were all based in and around the same town they have been invaluable to me and I have used them to help several other GR members too

Try Googling the area(s) you are interested in - some have online parish clerks and even if they don't have transcriptions some will do lookups for you.

Often the IGI doesn't cover all the years you need for a church. So you have no option other than to buy cd's or booklets of transcriptions, assuming that you can't just go to the county records office.
Google for the family history society for the county you need and see what they have for sale, or try the Parish Chest website. Don't forget that some counties have very good sites for the online parish clerks. They have lots of transcriptions, Lancashire is good for instance.
Before you buy, try googling for the parish records for the place you want, it is amazing what comes up.
Sometimes though, there is no option other than buying, I just received three cd's for Berkshire parishes this morning, which works out far cheaper than me making another trip down south

Thanks for the reply. Sorry to seem dim but what is IGI?

Have you tried searching the IGI here

http://www.familysearch.org/eng/Search/frameset_search.asp

If there is a parish of interest you can order films of parish records through that group. You can then view them for a few weeks at one of their centres near you.

I prefer to view actual filmed records rather than transcriptions, although the latter can be useful too.

Would anybody recommend buying cds from the internet that contain parish records? I've used the bmd records up to 1837 and I was wondering what everybody else does when they get to this stage? Any ideas would be great. Many thanks.
