if you don't want too, just don't send it then it causes you no problem, on the other hand if you want to do something out of the goodness of your heart? feel free it is your choice. one of the good things about the internet.

Have you had any help on GR from people doing lookups on subscription websites which you don't subscribe to?

One of my projects is visiting churches and cemeteries in Somerset and the photos I take I upload onto my web site for anyone to visit and take copies if they want to.

A chap in Australia has a web page on Toowoomba cemetery and lists all the names of those buried there but doesnt have the photos on-line, so you just have to email him and he sends a copy of the photo.

I would have thought that most people who contact you will do it via email and it is easy to send an attachment back to them. Anyone wanting a copy of the photo by snail mail - then I dont think it is unreasonable for you to ask for postage paid envelope of the correct size.

I've done this a few times for people when i've been visiting graves. I usually just email the digital image when i get home so the only cost is in my time - which I give willingly as many have for me:-)

The only time I've posted the images was when requested and the person involved did some lookups for me at their local records office and posted me the results:-)

If I have got to go to the graveyard, have a digital camera and take the image, the cost of a stamp I don't think is too much to ask?

Paul

Of course I can afford the cost of a stamp, the trouble is that everyone expect things for nothing!!

Why, cant you afford the cost of a stamp?

Paul Report 22 Feb 2009 12:39

who would pay for the post and packaging if I didn't charge?

KathleenBell

It wouldn't make any difference if you charged. The stone is in a public place so you are entitled to take a photo, and once taken the image is yours and not copyrighted by anyone, so if you want to charge for a copy you can, but you don't have to charge.

Thanks
What if someone wanted me to send them a copy and I charged them £1 would that make a difference?

I am interested in taking a digital image of one of my ancestor's gravestones, if I did would I be infringing any copyright or any land laws?
Thanks
