Yeah, Yorkshire!!! Mid-March. Is that tomorrow?

There is a little tip that might help. It is not illegal as the one posted earlier that we got warned about, and does not involved changing the URL.

Enter your rellie, name, year of birth, place of residence. Find him.

Arrow back and delete his forename and year of birth, but put him as another relative in the same household at the bottom.

That should pull up a list of people with the same surname in the same place. It is not fantastic, if your surname is Smith, forget it, and it doesn't tell you if there are others in the household with a different surname, but it is better than spending a quid unnecessarily.

I'm registered on the 1911census.co.uk site itself, not through findmypast ............ and the email comes from the 1911census people

so could this be why some people have received the email and others haven't?

There are two paragraphs in the email that are particularly relevant, I think:-

The scanning of the 1911 census continues and we are progressing on schedule for completion in summer 2009. We know that many of you are waiting for particular counties to come online but may already have bought credits that will expire before this date.

We expect to launch the remaining English counties in the middle of March, and are pleased to announce that we will automatically extend any credits that are due to expire before this. Credits will be extended until the 31 March at no extra cost.

There was a whole lot more, samples of pages to show how difficult the transcribing can be, success stories, etc.

Please, please, let Yorkshire and Westmoreland be released soon!! Wales can follow soon after ...... and then I'll be a really happy bunny!!

I don't have the email yet, probably get it towards the end of the week as I only signed up in December, always due to the lovely members on here know what its going to say before I open it.

I hope the rest of yorkshire is realsed by the end of March, I'm actually quiet excited by the prospect of not having to wait till Summer.

Hope they also are getting there act together on Wales.

Although I don't see why they just can't release it bit by bit rather than in big chunks as it would stop the site being overloaded. So will it crash the end of March? or just refuse to work 50% of the time like when it was released.

You may get the email later Joan - I don't think they will send them all out together as there are probably millions registered with them.

I read it to mean that the rest of the counties in England are all going to be available from the middle of March. This is copied from the email I received:-

"We expect to launch the remaining English counties in the middle of March, and are pleased to announce that we will automatically extend any credits that are due to expire before this. Credits will be extended until the 31 March at no extra cost."

I also got the email tonight to say that the other counties were being added hopefully by mid-March and that credits would last until at least the end of March if they were due to run out before then.

I'm so pleased about the added counties because all the family I'm looking for are in the North East.

Well Sylvia, I didn't get such a message, but I still have credits in hand.

Wonder why that is?

I bought 600 credits, and they are good for 1 year from date of purchase.

BUT I also received an email this morning from the 1911census site to say that they were hoping that some of the other counties would be available in mid-March (YIPPEE), and that credits that were due to run out in mid- March would be extended for 2 weeks to the end of March

Hi,
I was about to purchase some 1911 credits but I see that you have to use them before they expire - but they won't say when they expire until you buy them. That makes me suspicious.
Can anyone tell me how long they last please.

Thanks,
B
