Just a note to say I had an 1863 birth and have traced him through the 1871 and 1891 census this way - working on the 1901 at the moment

I have just discovered this today and thought it might be useful for other newbies like me

I did this on GR site after getting sick of hammering my credits but would presume it would work on others

Before I start I will apologies in advance as my explaination may not be the very best!

First search the full name and date of birth of the person you are looking for
Then make a note of their location
Next search only the surname and location
This will give you a list of all members of the household
Then confirm the marriage of the two oldest members of the hosuehold
Then search births of married couple
This ensures that you dont add possible boarding nieces + nephews as siblings

I use FreeBMD to confirm and tie up little loose ends

I really hope this makes sense and if not please feel free to try and explain better!
