Thanks !

That is correct. So do you think Sophia (1881) was Louisa (1896) or a different person entirely ?

Hi,

Many thanks for responses so far....

The registration district was St Saviour Southwark, London.

I have the sons birth and death certificate and it names John Albert Stembridge as the father on both documents however the informant in both cases as Louisa Stembridge (mother) - unfortunately John Albert Stembridge the father had himself died of TB by the time his son was born.

I have searched for a marriage between John Albert Stembridge and Louisa between 1891 and 1896 but cannot find one - although I may be looking in the wrongh places : )

A child's death cert normally records them as son or daughter of the fathers name so have you got that birth cert to establish he was the right family. The death cert seems to indicate he was the illegitimate son of louisa Stembridge

We are all on an upward learning curve ... :-)

Whereabouts were they?

I have found that names can change now and then.

Hi,

I m a newbie so I do sometimes drop by with what may be obvious questions - so thanks in advance for any help.

I have a question about someone on my family tree named John Albert Stembridge (1861 - 1895).

At the time of the 1891 census he lived with his wife Sophia Stembridge and 2 children however in early 1896 he had a son (John Henry Stembridge) who unfortunately died of TB 6 months later - both the birth certificate and death certificate of the son show the mother as Louisa Stembridge. Is there a way of establishing whether he divorced and remarried between 1891 and 1896 or whether this was just an incorrect listing of Sophia or indeed whether sometimes Louisa was sometimes used in place of Sophia.

Appreciate your help !

Chris
