X Lairy- Fairy Report 25 Feb 2009 18:14

I have a birth cert that says DOB 1942
but on the cert it says date of registration 1945 ..
Any clues as to why it took 3 years to register the child ..
many thanks

Were the parents married? Just a thought because if not and the father was in the army the mother may have held off registration until he was there so his name went on the cert?

Similarly maybe the paperwork was held at the local registery office till someone was avaiable to copy it and send it to London.

By the way both the above ideas could be absolute rubbish, the years just jumped out at me as being during WW2 1939-1945.

Have you looked to see if there's another registration in 1942 under MMN?

Don't worry Posie, what I said doesn't apply if dad isn't named on the cert

i think claire is asking if the child was also registered in 1942 under the mothers maiden name possibly not married and married later.
bit late with this as claire already answered

posie,
Not sure how relevent it is now, but just in case....the war didn't finish in 1944, but in 1945. May in europe, August in asia, but it would have taken a while after that for troops to get home from the warzones.

its not really odd its probably just a case of people trying to legitimise their family. my mother in law has 2 registrations one before marriage of her parents and one after? but there could be another registration out there from 1942? do you have a name for look ups in 1942?

The war definately finished in 1945, either that or I have to go back and correct my GCSE, and A-level teachers and a few History Lecturers.

Admittedly D-Day was in 1944, but that was the beginning of the end rather than the end.

And as RobG pointed out it took time to get troops back home.

Remember too the soldiers in prison camps. My father was away 5 years.

My brother was a baby when he left and going to school when he returned so there is a 7 year gap between us

PME - maybe you will have to recheck your GCSE - there is still no peace signed between Russia and Japan.
