The GRO "Army Births and Baptisms" index has the following:

Name BURCHELL Catherine A
Place Peshawar
Year 1902
Regiment: 13th
Volume 877
Page 279

This is a far more legible index that the Army Births index. Again the GRO will be able to provide a copy of the birth certificate based on the details above.

Similarly Army marriages are indexed.

There is a marriage entry for the following:

BURCHELL Henry
Station Rawal Pindi
Year 1902
Page 78

Of course this may not be your man, the name on the birth certificate will help you.

Births to miltary families overseas are listed in a separate GRO index to the normal England and wales index and not on FreeBMD. They are however available on some of the payto view family history websites.

The GRO index of army births has an entry:

BURCHELL Catherine Amy
Year 1903
Station: Peshswar (? spelling image hard to read)
Page: 205 (again the image is hard to read

You should be able to order the birth certificate from the GRO with this information

Hi I was wondering if any one would be able to give me some advise on tracing my family tree.

My husbands Great grandmother was born in India to a man in the British army and a British Governess who tort british sargents etc's children. Unfortunatly I dont have any names for the mother. He was Harry Burchell, I dont know where in the UK he was born I only know where they settled when they returned.
He served on the North West front in India in 1897.

My Husbands great grandmothers name was Cathrine Amy Burchell born 24th Dec c1901 in Peshore India and she returned to the UK on the SS Royal Rawlinpindi in June 1903

If you can help or give me some assistance in where i should be looking for Cathrine's birth certificate and Harry's marriage certificate I would be very grateful

Many regards
Penni
