1970 Birth not Registered until 1975?

Is it possible to delay a birth registration by this amount of time?

I found the person in questions birth registered in 1975 (typed),
I then found the same name, mothers maiden name and place of birth handwritten on index five years prior to this.

The index numbers for the two births do not appear to be the same (handwritting is unclear.)

There is no death for the first registration.

I dont believe they are two different families, as the two births are the only ones with that surname/mothers maiden name combination in that town.

Any thoughts?

The person born in 1970 could have been re registered in 1975 if their parents subsequntly married.
Obtaining the 1975 birth cert would still give original birth details i.e. born in 1970.

Hello Gemma.

This is just a suggestion. Could it be, that when your rellies had reason to register/ look up another entry, they found that the entry for 1970 had been overlooked?

I have never found the marriage for my gt grandparents. Yet they were referred to as being married on gt gran's death, and gt grandfather's subsequent (second?)marriage.

I wish you well, with your search. Do let us know, the outcome.

Thanks Sam, i didnt think of that.
Ive just looked up her birth under mothers maiden name in 1970 and it is there along with an altered index number!

Well, i guess that gives me a very good idea of when to look for her parents marriage!

Found her parents marriage, in the quarter before the birth was re-registered. I guess this solves my puzzle!
