Mine are not in any set order, at the moment I have the marriage certificate plus birth and death certificates for that couple all in one plastic folder, I though rarely look at them as I put the information into FTM when I get the certificate as well as attaching a digital photo (I don't have a scanner, but a high resolution photo is just as good as scaning it in) of the certificate to the appropriate person.

Thanks Annie,

I already have a folder for each person with copy census entries, etc. so think I will just keep all the certs. in the same folder instead of separately. It makes more sense to keep it all together.

Thanks,

Barbara

Thank you both. What a good idea Tina of scanning and filing on your computer. Will try that.

Thanks

I have three loose leaf folder. One each for births, marriages and deaths.

I keep my Family Tree off-line and when I get a new cert, I scan it and keep a copy in a folder on the computer (that way I can easily email it to any new contacts who want a copy). I type all the information (including witnesses) into the notes section of my Tree. Then I file the actual cert in a clear punched plastic folder (you can get acid free ones) in the relevant loose leaf folder in date order.

Since all the details are copied onto the tree, I can easily find the actual cert because I know the date of it. Equally, when the mood takes me, I can sit down in my comfy chair by the fire with the loose leaf folder and brood over the certs. It is amazing how often something that seemed irrelevant when you get a cert, jumps out at you months (or years) later when you have more information to put it into context.

Any tips please on organising certs. I have tried putting bmds of person in one file under the birth name, but this doesn't work. If anybody has any good ideas it would be appreciated. Thanks
