you could also have a look at www.familytreeforum.com

It's a free site, although yu have to register, and it was started by a group of members from on here about 2 or 3 years ago.

oh!

Thank you for that

I thought that you did have to buy a sub to findmypast, then you could search the 1911, and then pay extra to see the images.

I prefer to access the 1911 census from www.1911census.org.uk ........................ you can search the index for free, then decide whether you want to buy credits to look at the actual images.

On findmypast, you have to pay a sub to that site before getting the chance to look at the 1911 census.

personally ....... I wouldn't take the gold membership on here.

GR only re-directs you to other sites, some of which are possibly available FREE ...... like bmds on www.freebmd.org.uk, online parish clerks, fmailysearch.org (the Mormon site.

The regular membership is good ... that gives you access to the family trees, the Search option, and these community boards, but Gold and buying credits to look at other sites on here is a waste of money in my humble opinion!

However, records after 1900 are more difficult to access than pre-1900 ..... the privacy agreements start to take effect.

I find that my sub in www.ancestry.co.uk is invaluable. I dn't know how I would manage without it.

www.rootsweb.org is another good site, where you might also be able to find someone having loaded a fmaily tree that is useful to you .............. and it's free

Will have a rethink about if I want to continue doing this!

What is it exactly you are looking to find?

After 1900 the only records that you are likely to find on line are BMD's, apart from the 1911 census which has limited transcriptions available on Find my Past, for a fee.

Records in the 1900's are harder to find than ones from earlier, what type of records are you looking for?

Personally I wouldn't use the gold membership in here, I use Ancestry.

Ive got a gold membership on here but Im finding it difficult getting to records in the 1900's that I need. I live in France so visiting record offices isnt an option. Is there any other site I should join to give me more options on obtaining information?
Thanks
