Thank you all very much for your help. I didn't realise how difficult it was for our American friends. I hope other States have more info for you.

Thank you again.

The Rickwood family returned to the States in 1851:
New York Passenger List:
John Rickwood, age 26, born England, Forger?
Arrived: Feb 24 1851
?, age 26
Ann, age 2
Alice, 6 months?

In case you haven't found the Rickwood family in 1860:

1860 United States Federal Census, August 1860
Name: Anna M Rgnord
Age in 1860: 11
Birth Year: abt 1849
Birthplace: England
Home in 1860: Saugerties, Ulster, New York
Name Age
Jno Rgnord 35, born England
Eliza Rgnord 40, born England
Anna M Rgnord 11, born England
Alice Rgnord 9, born New York
Wm Rgnord 8, born New York
Mary Rgnord 5, born New York
Eliz Rgnord 3, born New York
Ada Rgnord 2.12, born New York

So it does look like Ann was born in England after all. Also, they probably weren't returning to the states in 1851, they were making their first voyage.

This site lists some New York marriages:

http://www.usgennet.org/usa/ny/county/ulster/
(This is not a state site, so be careful of any fees.)

I do not see any Capron's in that part of New York in 1870. I do not see anyone with a similar name to Capron, in 1870, in Saugerties. There is:
1870 U.S., Kingston, Ulster, NY
Henry Khfron
Born abt 1850, England
Occupation: Moulter?
Parents of Foreign Birth
Looking at the image, the name could be Khflin

I do not see anyone with a name similar to him, born c1850, in 1880 in New York State.

From trying to help GR members with American lookups, it seems that a lot of the eastern states do not have online BMD sites. Unfortunately, it appears that New York is one of those states.

You can order a certificate from:
http://www.health.state.ny.us/vital_records/

Have you checked the 1870 census? There is a daughter named Annie, and unless someone made a mistake either on the 1870 or 1880 census, she might not be your Elizabeth's mother: Annie on the 1870 was born in New York.

I will have a look around to see if I can find anything.

Can anyone please tell me if there is a site with New York State BMD's. I have tried Ancestry without success.
I am looking for the birth of Elizabeth Capron 1874. I believe her mother was Ann Rickwood. On the 1880 census Elizabeth is with her grandparents at Saugerties, Ulster County, NY. There is no sign of her mother or father it says Elizabeth's parents were born in England.
I cannot find I marriage or a death for them.

Thanks
Pat
