The address given on the marriage certificate may be a lead.

If you have access to any old directories for the period around 1865 - 1871 you may be able to find the names of residents of Great Mersey Street. Armed with that information check names in the 1861 and 1871 census and see if you can find them in Great Mersey Street. Check to see who is at No 33.

Sadly the historical directories website doesn't have any for Liverpool for that timeframe.

Seriously running out of ideas!

yes i had posted this query before but as pete stated i was awaiting the marriage cert and hope that would be able to get me further.
my mother in law who's family this is was told that lucy was born in bilbao and taken to france to be christened protestant and then they moved back home but this is only what has been passed down. there was supposed to be some of his work in the museum in liverpool but think this might be a myth

When you previously posted this query you were waiting for the marriage certificate. I see you now have that and consequently know Lucy's father name.

have you searched 1861 census?

What makes you think that they returned to England from Spain when Lucy was born. If that were the case she should be in the 1851 census somewhere!

hi
i had a lucy potter c1848 born in spain marrying william holmes 1868.
i sent off for their marriage cert to give me some idea as to who lucy's father was.
all i know is that her father was a potter by name and trade and was sent to spain(Bilbao) to work on egg shell china. and lucy was born over there i dont know if she has any siblings or not.
well the marriage cert tells me that they
married 3/12/1868
st marys kirkdale walton on the hill reg dist west derby and toxteth park
william holmes
full age
batchelor
sail maker
33 gt. mersey street kirkdale father john holmes deceased

lucy potter
full age
spinster
no occupation
33 gt mersey street kirkdale
father henry potter
occupation - potter

witness
hannah holmes - ( williams sister )
thomas carefull - no idea who this is

i have lucy on census from 1871 to 1911 but would love to find out who her parents were. i think lucy was the eldest child and they moved back to england when she was born

how can i find out more about lucy's parents i cant send for a birth cert because she was born in spain.

thanks linda
