Just because the children's birth certificate states the mother's name as Kate Marmont nee Newman doesn't neccessarily mean the parents were married.

My husband's birth certificate is written in this way but his parents were not actually married, because his father had been married previously in the 1920's and presumeably couldn't afford to divorce.

If you buy Philip's "second" marriage certificate it would tell you whether he describes himself as bachelor, widower or divorced.

I can't find the marriage cert of my Gt Grandparents, Kate Coppard Newman & James Lee Marmont. Their son was born 1884 & on his birth cert it states "mothers name" Kate Marmont nee Newman so I assume they did get married. I have searched Free BMD but nothing. No problem finding James's 2nd & 3rd marriages. I would appreciate any help. Thanks
