At the LDS site, click on Library - Library Catalog in the blue bar at top of page, then do a place search for Liverpool, and click on the church records - parish of interest. With a big city like Liverpool, it's a bit awkward deciding which parish, but one obvious choice is wherever their families were in 1841.

Just realised you are looking for Liverpool. Some Lancashire parish records are on this site - http://www.lan-opc.org.uk/

Hi Irene,

As Carolyn has already stated you will find some parish records on the IGI on www.familysearch.org

However what I was meaning is that if you know which parish your ancestors came from, then you can actually go to an LDS Family History Centre near to where you live and they will order in filmed copies of parish records for just a couple of pounds. They then keep the film at the centre for about a month to give you time to view them.

There is a search box on the home page of the familysearch site where you can put in the name of the place you live and it will tell you the nearest centre to where you live.

Irene, you want the IGI (International Genealogical Index) once you get on the Family Search site. You might also find the 1881 census useful too.

There weren't any certificates prior to 1837. You could look in parish records for a baptism (sometimes the date of birth is also given but not usually). You can also look at parish records for marriages.

You can order parish records from your nearest LDS Family History Centre. (addresses on www.familysearch.org)

Hi,
Anyone know how I go about finding birth and marriage certs from pre 1837? I know the birth was in Liverpool ans suspect the marriage was too but I live too far away to visit the office there.
Thanks
Irene
