Thank you for this extra information and suggestion - Sorry that I hadn't responded earlier.

George and Hannah both died in Lincoln.

Deaths Mar 1915 (>99%)

Levi George 74 Lincoln 7a 747

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Deaths Jun 1923 (>99%)

LEVI Hannah 83 Lincoln 7a 515

If you have a spare £7 it might be interesting to see who reported Hannah's death and her address. Dora would have been 19 years old in Jun 23.

Yes, of course there was water - she's about half the size and looks like a chihuahua

Thanks everyone for replies, they've been very helpful. I need to dash now, but will check later

She is listed as 'spinster'

Sorry I missed that reply before I posted my last one and thanks for your thoughts on the electoral roll

Addressing those points in order:

Witnesses are a C Mayhew and and M R Bu?by

(extra info) Dora Levi was living at 74 King Street Lincoln. She was aged 22, which checks out age-wise

George died 1915 - so how would I go about checking for a will?

Once again thanks for replying - sorry I took so long getting this one out - my fluffiest kitten fell in the bath

The questions I would be asking myself are:
1) Does Dora's marriage cert have her address? If so, it's worth looking at the electoral role for a similar time for any clues.
2) Does it give her age rather than just "full" or similar? And is she shown as a spinster or widow (etc)? From that try looking for another Dora being born (with the surname Levi if shown as spinster).

Sometimes the best way to prove you're right, is to put a lot of time in trying to prove you are wrong!!

You can see on the 1901 census that George and Hannah have a daughter listed as Nelly

In 1910 Nellie Levi married.

In 1911 Nellie and her husband are shown in the Levi household complete with Dora.

From Dora's birth certificate you know that Dora is the daughter of Nellie - father not stated.

So the challenge is to prove that the Dora Levi who married in Lincoln in 1926 is the same girl listed in 1911 census etc.

Marriage certificate witnesses?
Age at time of marriage?

When did George die? Did he leave a will?

Thanks for replying.

What I'm after is some means of proving that they are the same Dora Levi. I really don't believe Fred is her father. As it stands it looks very likely, but it just doesn't seem firm enough

What are you attempting to do,prove that Fred Louch is her father?
I would think,highly unlikely.

Here is my collected evidence so far:

1) Census of 1901: shows George and Hannah Levi living in the St Peter at Gowts parish of Lincoln
1) Birth certificate 11/12/1903 Dora Levi, daughter of Nellie Levi of 13 Knight Street, Lincoln, no father shown
2) Census of 1911 - At 104 Newland, Lincoln (St Peter at Gowts): a 7 year old Dora Levi is listed as the granddaughter of George Levi and Hannah Levi (Minney). Also in the house are the newly married (less than a year) Fred A Louch and Nellie Louch.
3) Marriage certificate of William Alfred Whiter (airman at Cranford) and Dora Levi on 3/4/1926 St Peter at Gowts which shows William's father's name, but not Dora's.

While I'm fairly convinced that the Dora Levi who married William Whiter is the daughter of Nellie Levi and granddaughter of George Levi, I don't believe the evidence is sufficicient and involves too much of a leap of faith because her father's name doesn't appear on birth or marriage certificates.

So does anyone have any suggestions on other sources that might link them?

Thanks in advance
