Or even give a link to the photo and we can id which it was.

I was in the Navy myself, so I could tell if it was navy or merchant, that would be a start before we look at anything else.

Think the answer to your question is , Yes.
If you put up name, dob, place of birth, It's likely that someone can help.

I have a photo of my Grandfather taken about the time of the 1st world war in what I think is Navy or Merchant Navy uniform, can't see any badges. Is it possible to trace if he was in one of those services?
