I again I'd like to say a big thanks, looks like from the consensus of all those who have had a gander for me that her name was in fact Fernie and not Euphame.

Whould love to know how they came p with that since the image on Scotlands people clealy state Fernie.

A raher unusual name I must say, but about time my family gave m something to work with. I really over common names and them repeating them.

Sorry Jim.
I dont seem to be able to find the record now. I wonder if its been deleted/changed. I have several Elizabeths in my tree and as it was about 4 years ago I found the error Im not sure which Elizabeth it was

GypsyJoe Report 6 Mar 2009 23:44

Okay, thanks all.

I'm checking them all against scotlandspeole records. I'm hoping I can take these as verbatum.

So if it has....

"Extracted birth or christening record for the locality listed in the record. The source records are usually arranged chronologically by the birth or christening date."

...at the bottom of the page and also batch and source numbers then it's from a genuine source.

Well spotted,Joan!
Tell us more,Margaret.
What are their names and how old are they?

Battenburg Report 6 Mar 2009 19:11

Some submitted entries are taken straight from a census . I have a relative of mine entered as Elizabeth Do.
The Do was on the census and was " ditto". Cant think how the submitter hadnt realised

Hi Joe
All the above are parish records.
Lets take one son

Samuel Melville Hay - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Birth: 12 MAY 1830 Duddingston, Midlothian, Scotland

2. Samuel Melille Hay - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Birth: 12 MAY 1830 Duddingston, Midlothian, Scotland

3. SAMUEL MELLVILLE HAY - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Christening: 23 MAY 1830 Duddingston, Midlothian, Scotland
Now if you click on them in turn:-
1/Record submitted by a member of the LDS Church.
2/Record submitted by a member of the LDS Church
3/Old parochial registers for Duddingston, 1631-1854 Church of Scotland. Parish Church of Duddingston (Midlothian)
As you can see the only official record is number 3.
The other two could be genuine but equally they could be invented.
My daughter has the means to enter information on the IGI and she wants to borrow my tree to do so.
You have to imagine that thousands of church members can make entries but how many check their sources?

So Jim

sorry I might seem a bit stupid with these ones on IGI.

The list of kids, is that submitted by someone or is that from a genuine source?

Jim

I too found those census'.

Then when I looked on IGI (Euphame and Robert) depending on which pair I clicked on than clicking on family I found their children and the children match those of the census with Fernie (Fairne), though there was a couple extra.

FERNIE MELVILLE - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Birth: 07 JUN 1803 Balmerino, Fife, Scotland

It would seem that this is her real name and that the submitted records are wrong.

I would have thought highly likely. Euphame is probably Euphemia and Fernie or possibly Femmie could be a shortened version. You may need to satisfy yourself with some further evidence though.

Would these be the same person.

On familysearch I found a Fernie Melville married to Robert Hay. I also found a Euphame Melville married to a Robert hay. Same place and date for both.

Would they be the same person do you think?
