Thanks for the advise and info everyone, I'd found the 1850's children myself, what I am after is folk 1830's and before to answer the details of Edward and his father Joseph.
Will be looking into contacting the Smethwick Library, Jonesey, may see if they have an email address, as that sounds promising.
Will also take a look at the Hugh Wallis site - thanks for that Syliva.
That will give me something to go at.
If anyone else has more info on Edward and Joseph etc, feel free to contribute.
Many thanks All

Be careful

The records that Betty posted are I think these:-

1. Henrietta HUNT - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Birth: DEC 1853 Smethwick, Stafford, England

2. John HUNT - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Birth: About 1849 Smethwick, Stafford, England

3. Joseph HUNT - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Birth: About 1854 Smethwick, Stafford, England

4. Emma HUNT - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Birth: About 1856 Smethwick, Stafford, England

5. Jane HUNT - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Birth: About 1856 Smethwick, Stafford, England

6. Faith HUNT - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Birth: About 1859 Smethwick, Stafford, England

7. Hope HUNT - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Birth: About 1859 Smethwick, Stafford, England

These are taken from the International Genealogical Index on www.familysearch.org, the Mormon site

and every single one of them is a SUBMITTED record ......... that is a record sent in by a church member, there is NO backup documentation to prove the information is correct. In fact, it has been known for some of submitted records to be very very wrong.

Take such records under advisement, but do not enter them in your tree until and unless you can find other evidence that they are correct.

Can anyone help me find the birth details of my gt gt gt grandfather Edward Hunt, he was born in 1828 (calculated from census records) in Smethwick Staffordshire, he had a sister Hannah born 1831. In 1848 he married Jane Ashton Wittacker in West Bromwich, from this I have found his father to be a Joseph Hunt, Blacksmith. My problem is his mother and beyond. I have been given a possible mother of Lucy Turton, and she and a Joseph Hunt do seem to have had children, Pheobe, Joseph, John, Charles, Rebecca, Henry, but somehow I can't fit Edward and Hannah in with them. I am wondering if their mother died and Joseph remarried Lucy and had a second family. So if anyone has Parish records for Smethwick I'd be so pleased to hear from you, if I could get back beyond Edward and his father I'd be quite happy (well as happy as a famiy history searcher ever is!!!) Can't find the Ashton Wittacker lot in West Brom either, but really want to do the Hunt bit, told my Uncle 3 years ago I'd get it all down on paper for him one day, as he's 80 this year I feel I should try and do all I can.
Thanks and look forward to any info.
