As I stated previously............look to the right of the main search box..there is a whole section 'Browse records'
Click on England & Wales BMD Index.............it's in the menu!

A new page opens.....scroll to Marriages!

Marriages

Marriages 1837 – 1915 (transcribed by FreeBMD)

Marriages 1984 - 2005 (transcribed)

Marriage Indexes 1837 – 1983<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Marriages are fully searchable by name and you will find individual matches in Marriages 1837 – 1915 and Marriages 1984 – 2005.

For marriages between 1916 – 1983 you will need to use the Marriage Indexes. Your search result will show the first and last result on the relevant page (image). Once you’ve opened the image you can then scroll down and look for your ancestor yourself on the page.

Find out how to search the Indexes

how do i find a marriage from the 1940's ?

i have looked up my grandmothers marriage and successfully found that on ancestry in 1946 .. and have the certificate..

but i'm trying to find others that would have been around that time and i cant find them ..

i know they wont be on the freebmd (my grandmothers wasn't) but i'm sure there used to be a bit where you could search through pages of alphabetically listed people. ??

am i going mad??
