Nope registering it is just to take advantage of some facilities like updates, internet back up and your own website (which you can keep password protected but which means you can invite anyone you want to see it, to do so from anywhere in the world)

Thanks Julie , ive had my FTM for a while now
but never registered it , as i thought other people on Ancestry would be able to view it .

FTM 2006 registration is really to allow you easy updates (if there are any left ) and you will probably find a free 30 day trial for Ancestry.
Your credit / debit card details are required, but as long as you cancel before the 30 days these will not be debited.
E-mails carrying various Ancestry offers will only arrive if you tick the appropriate box on registration, so if you don`t want it, you don`t get it!
Your tree details would only be transferred if you exported them personally so your tree details are quite safe.
Nothing to worry about.
