I have EDWIN WALDRON 1861, born in Eldersfield in the 1901,1891 with wife and children and again in the 1881 census alone as a live-in farm servant with another family (approx 19yrs).

Ive been trying to find him in the 1871 Census (appox. 9/10yrs) hoping It would list his mother/father etc. I have been unsuccesful.
I then bought his birth certificate which has his mother as BETSY WALDRON, father BLANK. which means he was probably born out of wedlock.
Forgetting his father for now....... I have now been searching high and low for his mother BETSY WALDRON and have come to the conclusion is probably short for ELIZABETH. It is proving very hard. Something just doesn't add up

Now tell me what you think of this...............I know it doesn't add up but it's all I can find

EDWIN WALDRON - mother BETSY WALDRON

The only WALDRONS in Eldersfield (1951 census) I thought it could be his mother but couldn't prove it

Waldron, Elizabeth Head Widow 38 F Pauper Forthampton, GLS
Waldron, Mary Ann Dau U 20 F Glover Eldersfield, WOR
Waldron, Elizabeth Dau U 10 F Scholar Eldersfiled, WOR
Waldron, Dinah Dau U 7 F Scholar Eldersfield, WOR
Waldron, James Son U 5 M Eldersfield, WOR
Marten, Mary Visitor Mar 50 F Labourer Eldersfield, WOR.

and then I found this 1871 census

POLLARD, Thomas Head M 39 East Langdon
POLLARD, Mary Ann Wife M 37 Diseworth, Leicestershire
WALDROM, Eliza Ann Dau U 14 Diseworth
WALDROM, Edwin Son U 9 Diseworth
POLLARD, Ann Dau U 4 Diseworth

is it my Edwin? is Mary A. his sister (now POLLARD) not his mother..... and who is this Eliza A.

OMGosh! Does that mean that mother Elizabeth in the 1851 census was actually his grandmother and by the looks of it in the census you found Elizabeth in the 1851 was infact a pregnant Betsy in the 1861.

That is fantastic!! And look at all the spelling mistakes, hehe!

How on earth did you find that. I've been on the case for ages. Thank you so much for youre help.

It certainly looks like the family doesn't it?

Haven't found Edwin and Betsy in 1871 though.

I found them by searching for Dinah Wald* as it was a more unusual name.

The image looks like Walding but does seem to be the correct family as Elizabeth is the correct age and same birth place.

Here is the marriage.

Marriages Dec 1853 (>99%)

Portman John Upton 6c 513
WALDREN Elizabeth Upton 6c 513

These record makers love to make things difficult for us don't they. It's unbelievable how many spelling variations there are.I know they probably are mistakes but could the families have actually spelt it this way.
