Hi Julie

Grave records may still be kept at the Church, rather than the local records office. Try the Church first and see what they say - the Church I dealt with told me they had moved the records to the Records Office but the records office couldn't find them. I went back to the Church and they sorted me out.

Thanks Joan for your advice the said grave is in a churchyard but as said before there should be 6-8 graves there.Would I be able to view burial indexes at the library using Ancestry, because I now know the Auntie in question.
Thanks Julie

I have contacted the local council cemeteries dept in a number of instances and they have had big plans showing the plot numbers. Try them.

There should still be a burial plot record.
How else would they be able to re open any of the graves for later burial of a spouse or other family of any of the people.
Quite often the churches have an office which you can contact online.
Someone should be able to clarify this for you if you write to them

I have just found out who my Grandmother is buried with, its her Aunt from her Fathers side. The problem with her was she had been married before but her first husband (Samuel Ashcroft) was killed in action during WW1.Her second husband is a Richard Hesketh,so maybe now we can fill the blanks in the burial register.
Thanks Julie

Hi Jonesey we have spoken to the warden and he said something about because of the war some entries where not entered into the register. The war ended 7 years before that,we know she isn't the only one in the grave but its a bit sketchy as to whos with her. Heskeths have been mentioned but as my Mum was only five when she died she can't remember.
Thanks Julie

Hi everyone I am a bit of a newbie to all this, but here goes.My grandmother died in 1952 at the age of 35 her name was Mary Ivy Riley formerly Morley we have the death index for her,but our problem is there is no headstone on the grave. We have been to the church where she is buried and contacted the records office but neither can give us any information. Our problem is their is a patch of ground where at least 6 graves should be,all without headstones but which ones hers.
Sorry its a bit long winded but I didn't know how else to explain it.
Thanks Julie
