Server problems solved if anyone wants to have a look at the site.
Just google Family Tree Forum.

To find your own threads click on your name and your user board thing will come up, then you can find all your postings or threads from there.

It is a bit difficult to navigate at first because there is SO much more than GR to look at, but everyone is very helpful on there. If you have any probs, go to the General Chat board and people will leap to help you out. :)

I think one of the great things is that you can upload photos and docs for help or restoration.

I joined FTF last year, it's a great site, very friendly and helpful people,
there is an online magazine each month with lots of interesting articles.

Ah, thanks for that info Elaine - wondered why I couldn't get into the site today.

I'll second all the positive comments about the site - very helpful, friendly and civilised over there.

Bee.

I know what you mean Joan. Whilst I have used it and found it helpful, I can't find my way round it very easily and can never remember how to find my last posting. I find Rootschat easier to navigate. Members on both sites are polite, helpful and friendly. I don't see any of the slanging matches or abruptness that you occasionally find on here!!

You don't need an invite to join. Just go to the home page and register.
For anyone trying this morning - unfortunately there seems to be a server problem - just make a note of the site and try again later. Well worth the effort!

Nudged - I have told GR, this site is so outdated; you can see the difference between this paying site and free ones such as rootschat and family tree forum.

A brilliant site with very experienced helpers, what they dont know about Genealogy isnt worth knowing.

I, also, would recommend FTF; and rootschat, too.

I have also used the FTF and found it excellent and very helpful. I'd recomment it to anyone doing their family history.

There is a very useful WIKI - encyclopaedia of links and assistance. We also have the POW - places of Worship board where members take photos of churches/chapels etc. and put them on the site so that those whose ancestors were baptised/married/buried at those locations can download the photos freely for their tree info.

You can also upload bits of documents for others to check out, put on photos for others to do restoration work on or identify - and of course there is the WDYTYA competition, where someone can have a number of members working on their brickwall :)

Plus lots of other stuff like general for chatting, computer board for help with techi stuff and a dedicated tree software board oh and a brilliant online monthly magazine where members share their research findings with photos.

And its all free :)

It's a really good site founded by some GenesReunited members after a bit of a bust up on this site about 2 1/2 years ago when some members were banned (unfairly). It seems to have grown into a really useful site from small beginnings.

I know a lot of people will know about this site, but I've only recently become aware of it and I've found it very useful.

familytreeforum.com

You can add your gedcom to the site and search the database, add your family names and there are lots of useful geneology sites listed, plus lots more.

There are also lots of forums filled with peole willing to help if you need help.

It is well worth a look, if you don't know about it already!
