Do you have the Family Tree Maker program installed on your computer?
You will not be able to open a FTM file if you don't!

FTM has its own search facility to look for any of its own data files on your computer. Start it up, then File open, and click on the find file button at the bottm.

If you just copy the file back from your stick to My Documents, or somewhere you can find it, just clicking on it should cause FTM to start and open it.

Thank you for that, if I cant get that to work where will I locate FTM I cant remember where I found it.

You can't open it directly from your memory stick. You first need to copy the data back to your PC hard disc and open it from there.

It is to do with the fact that FTM has to keep the file open and continually saves back to the file as you enter or change data, something that a stick won't let it do.

Hello All
I thought I had saved my Family Tree Maker 2005 to my memory stick , now it wont allow my to open it on vista . I cant find Tree Maker anywhere there is a lot of work .
I would appreciate any ideas or where I can locate FTM
