One of the witnesses to marriage was Thomas St John, the other Elizabeth James

Hi Debbie,

Looking at your St Johns in the census I understand your query. Do the witnesses on James marriage cert give any family help??

Have you considered ordering Williams death cert ( a possibilty of 2), this may hold a clue, however George or Henry could have registered the death.

Maybe you could put out a Lymington Hampshire records search on Records Office, someone may be able to find a christening record for James???

Best of luck, Dee x

James st John got married to Lucy james in Labeth 2 aug 1858.
His father is listed as William St John and a Carpenter so it does match the William St John i found in Lymington

What year did you grandfather get married, and where?
What was William's occupation on the marriage cert?

Also, who was born in Lymington....was it your grandfather or his father?

I ordered a marriage cert for one of my grandfather, james St John to get his fathers name which was William. He was born in Lymington and found only 1 William St John living there and would be the right age. William was born abt 1780. Is there any way i can find out if this is 100% James' father? No census records together, i just dont want to research the wrong person!
