Urban District and sometimes you will get USD, Urban Sanitary District.

it is on all the records I have and I have heard it means Urban District as jonesey mentions

Thank you Jonensey maybe it is but it isnt on any of my other birth certs and the sub-district is gateshead first county borough of gateshead

Hi

Can anyone tell me what ' U.D.' on a birth cert
I have my fathers and under when and where born column it says jan 20th 1940 261 high teams U.D.
I think high teams was a workhouse ( altho i thought they had gone by then ) from info from a google search
