In order to confirm siblings, is there any way of finding out where people were living at the time their children were baptised. I don't want to just assume that all the children I have found in the parish records are my ancestors brothers and sisters.
Thank you to any one who takes the time to read this.

Morning,

You could always check the christening information with the info that is shown on the census! presuming that all the children lived and are shown on a census with their parents.

Or, you could order the birth certificates of the children to check who their parents were! These should tell you where the children were born.

You may need to look at the registers themselves. If you can order the film from the Church of Latter Day Saints and view it at your local LDS church then you "should" see an address and father's occupation on the parish register. Sometimes the address only shows as the village, other times you get more detail.

Or ask for someone living locally to look at the registers at the local Record Office. If you know the church and the period involved that won't take too long.

It really depends on how thorough the local vicar/clerk was. Some of the records I have give an exact address, the mothers maiden name and the fathers occupation (brilliant). Others only name the father and give the mothers first name :(

All you can do is try to tie them in by the parent names - check no other couple has same names obviously - but even this can be a pain in small villages where every John seems to marry a Sarah.

Morning Lynne, Jill and WS,

Thank you all for your replies. I had found the names on familysearch and Mike the Leicester lad kindly searched at Leicestershire records office. I take it that there is no other info to be obtained then, the village was Breedon and father shown as labourer on one of the records. My problem is for my ancestors baptism only mothers name is given and there is another baptism 3 years later, probable sister as same mothers name is given. There are other baptisms where the mothers name is the same as my ancestor but father is also named. One of the baptisms where both parents are named is only two months after my ancestor so I am wondering if there were two females in the village with the same name having children baptised within a couple of months of each other. As this was 1811 unable to check census or birth certificates.

Hi Heather,

Only just finished typing my previous reply so hadn't read your thread. I only started family history last year so still a novice. As the baptism I am interested in was pre certificates I was at a loss as to where to go. I think I will just have to go and trawl the records further back myself, it wouldn't be fair to ask Mike again and try and see if there were several families with the same name in the village. Thank you for your input.

Where would we be without the great help offered on here, thanks everyone.

If there was possibly another person with the same name, it might be helpful to follow the 'other' mother forward in parish records to see whether it gives a clearer picture.
Wills or witnesses at weddings or as informants at later events might also help to sort the family groupings.
