Can anyone suggest any sites where you can search and find if a relative is still alive?

Trouble I am having (and this is going too be a bit long winded sorry) is when she was sent to a camp in the 2nd WW, surnames were changed and original papers confiscated so she has no birth cert, the camp gave her the surname of Kowalski. But her brother stayed in the Ukraine and his name was Uri Ivanenko b. about 1939/40 (or it could have been changed to Maldavanavach/vich) as far as we know. Really want to find this brother, he was in the Russian Army

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Kim
