Genealogy sites, which ones do you prefer? There are so many now, large and small, specialised or not, local and international, I thought it may be handy for others to have some additional places to try. I like Curious Fox, Romanygenes, RomanyRoots and Rootschat; all are free (optional very cheap upgrade for Curious Fox) so its handy if you cant spend a lot. Tribal Pages is great for uploading your tree on, with an optional upgrade.

The Familysearch.org site is also good as it holds the igi data base for various baptisms and the 1881 census for free. For lancashire the lancashirebmd.org.uk website is also free and good for births, deaths and marriages.
Also for Lancashire the Lancashire online parish project is run by volunteers and free. It hold parish records but is very limited as they are being uploaded bits at a time. It is good and does hold s good database of records.

As with lancashire bmd there is also cheshirebmd, yorkshirebmd . walesbmd plus several others. Great sites all free.

For those looking for ancesters on Merseyside, there is the Merseyside Genealogy and History Forum which is helpful and free.

Medway City Ark is brilliant if you have relatives in that area but it is experiencing probs at the moment. You can view many parish records on line and its soooo interesting.

Hi every one.......GOOGLE!! Google everything.and put genuki in front of it..even the actual name of the pperson you're looking for.....I have just found several of my ancestors pre 1800 by Googling ......a name only.
Doesn't work all the time but also put genuki in front of any place you're looking for.......great fun..

I found two versions of my father's family going all the way back to the mid-1500s, and yes they are accurate!

plus has some US records

affiliated with ancestry, and you can often find trees that are shown on ancestry for which you have to pay, for free on rootsweb.

They have a brilliant collection of Parish registers.

Best of all they're free!
