I have a 1851 census giving the parents names of William Pearson Collier as Samuel and Elizabeth Collier. I have just got his birth certificate, and his mother's name is Leah. Leah appears in 1861 census but not Samuel.I've found a marriage reference 1840 Q3 for Leah and Samuel. Can anyone tell me if this is the same person or did he have two wives? I'd appreciate any advice on this. Kind regards, Jean

It does look like the same person as names sometimes get mixed up. What area on census? Is Leah a widow on the 61 census?

It's probably just a mistake on the 1851 census.

In 1851 they were living in Sycamore St.
In 1861 Leah was in Tavern(?) Yard, just off Sycamore St.
So I think this is Samuel in 1841:

Address is given as Sycamore St. So where is Leah??!!

Found 2 Leah Pearsons of about the right age, one in Cleckheaton & one in Huddersfield (where Samuel & Leah were married). The Huddersfield one seems most likely - wonder if she went back to look after her elderly mother and forgot to use her married name? There I'm making the story up for you!
