Have you looked at the original census image to see if her name has been mistranscribed?

There are a couple of possible marriages on freebmd:
Isabella Pearson and Isabella Purves

If you don't have access to the image on the 1871 census post more details here so someone can look for you.

Have you looked at the image? The name may have been mistranscribed also of course they may not have married, people did live together even back then.

I agree it looks like it could be Pearson, the r in Pearson is similar to the r in a Richard higher up the page.

I've found an Isabella Pearson on 1861 census, she is a servant.

In 1851, she is a visitor (really helpful!) with John and Margaret Richardson and William Richardson age 1 month, perhaps Margaret is her sister? (although I've just had a quick look on freebmd and can't find anything to support that theory!).

In 1841 there is an Isabella Pearson in Byker in Newcastle, parents Joseph and Ann Pearson and a sister Margaret, 7 years older (so maybe not such a duff theory after all).

You wouldn't think Isabella Pearson was such a common name, but there are several on freebmd born between 1837 and 1841 in the right sort of area.

Think you may have to bite the bullet and order the marriage cert to get any more concrete info.
