can anyone advise me how to find a particular street/address in a census (1891/1901 would be best) trying to trace history of a building I work in but haven't any names to input. Advice for ancestry co uk would be the best. Thank you Lynn.

Why don't you post the address.

Findmypast has the facility for address search 1891 all areas and limited areas 1901.

Go to the census search, but then click onto the 1891 English census from the list underneath the search box. This opens a search box just for the 1891 census. Ignore the box, but scroll down the page, choose the county you need from the list, then the town or village. You will then see a list of enumeration districts. Click on the words "view the enumeration district" and read what is says. When you find the correct one click on the district number which is on the left of the list. This opens the actual image pages and you can scroll though to find the place.
If it is a large town, it could take some time to find it

Alternatively post the address and we can look for it on Find My Past which is searchable

In 1891, the numbers in the street are 3,4,5.8,11,12,13,15,16,Apsley House, Boulevard Chambers,Cycle Depot, Handel House, iron Room Cottage, Offices, St George Hall,Waterloo Cottage, then two households with no number, just Waterloo St.

The Cycle shop could be number 19, but as yoou can see the numbers don't run consecutively
Cycle shop occupants
VEALS, Charles Head Married M 34 1857 Manager To Cycle Maker
Bristol
Gloucestershire
142 VEALS, Emily Wife Married F 32 1859

Gloucestershire
142 TYRER, Dolly Niece Single F 10 1881 Scholar

In 1901, the numbers run 1 -12 without any gaps, then Bakers Offices. There is no number 19
Having looked at the images, some of the other names from 1891 are tucked in between some of the numbers.

To help you find it on Ancestry, look for this man who lived at number 12, you can them look at the images for yourself
